- EARCOS Professional Learning Opportunitiesby Chris Brain
EARCOS (East Asia Regional Council of School) is the largest professional development network in our region and has loads of great opportunities to support staff to develop their practice through the year. Here are some of the biggest (and newest) opportunities for this year.
EARCOS Teacher Conference – March 18 – 20 2027
One of the biggest and best professional learning conferences in the region. This year’s theme is “Teaching—From the Heart” and the specific focus strands are: Science, Math, Social Studies/Humanities, Global Issues/Global Citizenship, Middle School, Service Learning, S.T.E.M, and General Education Topics. NIS regularly sends staff to both attend and present at these conferences and it is a great opportunity to demonstrate your skills and network with other great educators in our region. Applications to present will open in September – so start thinking now if this appeals to you!Weekend Workshops
Held across different schools all across the region, these are 2 day intensive courses facilitated by worldwide experts in their fields on a range of great topics. We are also hosting one in April about New Metrics and how do to measure what matters.Webinars
Great shorter bites to extend your practice. Usually 90 minutes and on a wide range of topics with expert speakers.Leadership for Neurodiversity Courses
6 different courses that go over 6 weeks aimed at developing and support specific classroom and school-wide practices that support the inclusion of neurodiverse learners.International Literacy Coach Cohort
A new ongoing coaching and support program for teachers and leaders wanting to develop their literacy development skills and implementation in school. Meets in person 5 times over 2 years.Action Research Grants
Fantastic, funded opportunities to undertake classroom-based research to develop and improve your practice. Applications for next school year will be opened early in 2027 – Watch this space! As always, if you have any questions about any of these opportunities, or would like some more information about EARCOS, please just email me (chrisbrain@nanjing-school.com) or grab me for a chat in the corridor.
