AI is already changing education. But are we spending enough time helping ourselves and our students understand it?
The AI for Education Summit 2026 is a free, online event bringing together educators, researchers, school leaders and students to explore one of the most important questions facing education today: What does it actually mean to be AI literate?
This isn’t simply about discovering new AI tools or finding ways to make our work easier. It’s about developing a deeper understanding of AI, knowing when and how to use it, recognizing its risks and limitations, and helping students become thoughtful, responsible and critical users of these technologies.
Some of the topics include:
- The research: What do we actually know about AI literacy and its impact on teaching and learning?
- Real classroom experiences: What are schools and teachers trying? What’s working, what isn’t, and what can we learn from their experiences?
- Safety, ethics and responsibility: How do we protect student privacy, maintain academic integrity and make responsible decisions?
- Effective use of AI: How do we make intentional choices about when AI can support learning and when it shouldn’t be used?
- Looking ahead: What might the future of education look like as AI becomes increasingly integrated into our lives?
Why consider participating?
As we continue developing our approach to AI at NIS, I think it’s important that we keep learning, questioning and sharing perspectives. We don’t need to have all the answers, nor do we need to be AI experts. But we do need to understand the opportunities and challenges well enough to make informed decisions about our teaching and our students’ learning.
This is an opportunity to hear from people working in the field, explore different perspectives, and bring some fresh thinking back to our own practice.

My recommendation: Register and watch the recorded sessions.
Given the time difference, watching the recordings is probably the best option for those of us in China! You can choose the sessions most relevant to your interests, watch them at a time that works for you, and revisit the ideas and resources afterwards. You don’t need to attend live to benefit from the summit.
Registration also includes access to session recordings, accompanying resources and a certificate of attendance with PD hours.

I’d encourage anyone interested in the future of teaching and learning to take a look. Sometimes the most valuable professional learning isn’t about finding immediate answers, but about asking better questions.
